


SHERLE H. BROWN
FINANCIAL
Sherle H. Brown joined ECI in 1986. Shortly after joining ECI, Sherle took leadership positions in the areas of finance and operations and was elected Treasurer in 1989, VP of Finance in 1997, and CFO in 2001. Sherle won many academic and service awards and graduated summa cum laude from Tennessee Wesleyan College with a Bachelor of Science in Accounting. Sherle has 30 years experience in real estate, finance, training, and human resources. Prior to joining ECI, Sherle held the position of Controller of Chemical Separations Corporation, Knoxville, TN and Business Manager of Forum Group, Indianapolis, Indiana.
Sherle resides in Marietta, Georgia with her husband of 30 years. In her spare time she enjoys writing, reading, cooking, and traveling.
VALERIE CALLOWAY
AFFORDABLE HOUSING
Mrs. Calloway joined H. J. Russell & Company in late 1977 as Controller of the Property Management Division. Ms. Calloway was subsequently promoted to Vice President of the Property Management Division in 1994 where she developed strategic plans for the effective management of forty two residential communities and eight commercial properties and she lead the company's public housing privatization efforts.
In August 1999 Mrs. Calloway was promoted to Chief Financial Officer of the RUSSELL organization. In this role, she had the responsibility for all finance and accounting functions for the company. She had principal association with commercial and investment bankers. She also served as project manager during the development and construction phases of two acquisition/rehab projects, monitored the start up operations of the Carver Homes HOPE VI and served as the transition leader for the management assumption of several Public Housing and Section 8 Communities.
As Senior Vice President of Real Estate Development, Mrs. Calloway coordinated the tasks associated with the new construction and/or rehabilitation of multi-housing units and other public/private financed developments. She identified new development opportunities, secured financing, coordinated design development, monitored construction and maintained relationships with financial institutions.
Ms. Calloway is currently serving as Senior Vice President for the Real Estate Development and Property Management Divisions. She is responsible for the day-to-day management of 12,000 units and repositioning of the properties in the portfolio through various refinancing instruments.
Before joining the RUSSELL organization, Mrs. Calloway was Director of Fiscal Management for Clark Atlanta University. A graduate of Duke University, Mrs. Calloway also has internal auditing and accounting experience, working as an Internal Auditor at Norfolk Southern Corporation, and as Customer Account Auditor at the Southern Railway Company.
NADEEN GREEN
FAIR HOUSING
Nadeen Green has been an attorney since 1979 and has been teaching Fair Housing law to the multi-family housing industry since the Fair Housing Amendments Act went into effect in 1989. Her many programs have been presented to apartment management companies and state and local apartment associations nationwide, and she has been asked to speak several times for the National Apartment Association and Multi-Housing World annual conventions. She also writes "reader-friendly" articles on Fair Housing which are made available throughout the industry. Nadeen is proud to be Senior Counsel with For Rent Magazine® which is published nationwide and which also offers to the industry its "LEADS™ Management System - Powered By Who's Calling" tracking and Internet opportunities.
As past president and long-time board member of her local bar association, Nadeen has had the opportunity to serve as a judge for mock trials and has taught high school students about career options in law.
JUDY GOGOL
MARKETING
Judy Gogol is the Vice President of Sales for the Eastern Region with For Rent Magazine. Judy joined For Rent Magazine in 1992 as an Account Executive in Denver, Colorado. In 1994 Judy managed the launch of the Baltimore For Rent Magazine. After a series of promotions her responsibility grew to include Florida, The East Coast, Texas and the North Midwest.
Prior to joining For Rent Magazine, Judy enjoyed a successful career in Property Management in Denver. Colorado. Similar to for For Rent Magazine, upper management recognized her talent and leadership abilities and she was promoted through the ranks to Regional Property Manager.
Judy's extensive knowledge of Property Management combined with her strong marketing, customer service and leadership abilities contribute to her well respected position in a multi family industry. Judy is passionate about helping her customers market their communities and meet their occupancy goals. She is also very involved in promoting our industry through the local and National Apartment Associations. As a member of Florida State University Advisory Board for the school of Residential Property Management, Judy was instrumental in the development of the Property Management Program further adding to the professionalism of our industry. It is obvious to anyone who knows Judy Gogol that she is a true marketing consultant to our industry and loves what she does.
ROBIN HEIN
"Robin" (Robert P.) Hein is the senior counsel and owner of Fowler, Hein, Cheatwood, Passino & Williams, P.A. and Hein & Associates, P.C. His Atlanta based law firms limit their practice to representation of apartment owners and managers.
Mr. Hein obtained his undergraduate and law degrees from the University of Georgia and has been in practice for 24 years. He serves on the Board of Directors of the Georgia and Atlanta Apartment Associations. Mr. Hein's firms act as general and corporate legal counsel for many local, regional, and national property management companies, handling litigation, fair housing defense, landlord-tenant matters, employment law, insurance defense, collections, and premises liability issues. He provides training and seminars for corporate and on-site management.
Mr. Hein is author of Fair Housing for Apartment Managers and Owners, a recently published internet distance training course.
WALT LAMPERSKI
MANAGEMENT
Walt Lamperski rejoined Steven D. Bell & Company in December 2003 as Senior vice President overseeing the operations of the Multifamily Division. Walt was previously employed with Bell from 1985 - 1996 and was overseeing the apartment operations at the time of his departure. Walt has an extensive background of more than 20 years in the Multifamily Industry most recently with United Dominion Realty Trust (UDRT) and Berkshire Realty Holdings, where he held senior executive positions with portfolios over 20,000 units. Walt achieved his Certified Property Manger (CPM) designation from the Institute of Real Estate Management (IREM) in 1987 and remains active with IREM. He holds a Bachelor of Science Degree in Business Management from Shorter College in Atlanta. Walt was the 2003 President of the Atlanta Apartment Association and the 1993 President of the Triad Apartment Association in North Carolina. He also holds a real estate license in the state of North Carolina.
RONNIE MARTIN
MAINTENANCE
Ronnie's accomplishment in Construction Management over the past 23 years has advanced him to the position of Maintenance Trainer, Community Safety Inspector, Community Building Inspector, Rehab Specialist and Estimator for the Multi-Housing Industry.
Ronnie brings with him 23 years of experience in the housing and construction industry. He has an extensive knowledge in electronics, new construction and rehab projects to include all phases of exterior and interior repairs along with energy conservation and sub-metering.
Mr. Martin is also teaches courses such as Risk Management, Maintenance for Managers & Mold Awareness for the National Apartment Association, Atlanta Apartment Association and Birmingham Apartment Association. In addition he coordinate with the Atlanta Apartment Association the maintenance training program that is currently used and assisted in the design of the training center as well as with the associated maintenance courses.
Ronnie has also successfully formed his own construction, remodeling and home inspection company. He remained active in the housing industry by continuing to train service personnel and performing safety audits for other management companies.
DEBBIE PHILLIPS
LEAD INSTRUCTOR
Debbie Phillips is a veteran in the housing industry and currently serves as GAIEF's Executive Director. Debbie began by earning a master's degree in Housing and an undergraduate degree in Consumer Journalism from The University of Georgia. She has also earned a Certified Property Manager's (CPM) designation, a Certified Marketing Executive designation, and a Senior Housing Marketing Specialist designation from the National Council on Seniors Housing.
From 1987 to 1990, Debbie worked with the original apartment association (AOMA) as the Director of Education and Governmental Liaison. After leaving the association, Debbie served as a key member of the senior management team for National Property Investors (NPI), a private real estate (property management) company. At NPI, Debbie gained on-site experience by mentoring regional managers, writing an award winning policy and procedure manual (IREMs best education award), and co-chairing a take over team for 60 multi-family properties at one time. She also directed all of the corporate communications and marketing for the principals of the firm. During Debbie's tenure, NPI grew from 18 properties to more than 120 properties.
After leaving NPI, Debbie joined the Berkshire Real Estate Group as Vice-President of Marketing and Training. In this position, Debbie was responsible for corporate and on-site marketing, employee selection, and training for all leasing agents nationwide. Debbie developed an outstanding training curriculum by mentoring regional field trainers and creating numerous maintenance and management training programs that were implemented at the site level.
After leaving Berkshire in 1997, Debbie formed her own training, marketing, and image development company, The Quadrillion. Since the company's inception, Debbie has worked with over 150 different property management companies. Her experience has afforded her the opportunity to work in several capacities, ranging from long term assignments to delivering keynote speeches in the areas of leasing, marketing, management, and training.
Debbie still believes in the words of Walt Disney, "you can dream, build and create the most beautiful place in the world, but it takes PEOPLE to make the dream a reality." Her focus has always been on PEOPLE. Debbie trains and motivates daily. She also develops products and services on a daily basis that enable her clients to achieve greater market share.
MIKE WILLIAMS
J. Mike Williams is an attorney with the law firm of Fowler, Hein, Cheatwood, Passino & Williams, P.A. His Atlanta based firm limits its practice to representation of multifamily owners and managers.
Mr. Williams obtained his undergraduate degree from Florida Atlantic University and his law degree from the Atlanta Law School. He formerly served as a SGT. in the Army National Guard and currently serves as the legal representative on the American Red Cross Standards Committee. He has been in practice for over 6 years.
